Junya Watanabe is a Japanese fashion designer, who started his career of Comme Des Garcons fashion house under Rei Kawakubo's mentorship. Born in 1961, Junya went to Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo, and, after graduation he first worked as a patternmaker. In 1992 he started his own line under Comme Des Garcons, cultivating his own unique look and style. He likes technologically advanced textiles and materials, and uses shapes and lines a lot in his collections, constructing sculpture looking outfits and yet combining them with the soft traditional cotton fabrics. Junya is now one of the leading designers in minimalism and futuristic looking couture.
